Zirconium supported porcelain restorations are aesthetic restorative applications made on white zirconium material.
Recently, zirconium teeth are among the most preferred treatments. The porcelain used is coated on a material called zirconium. The most important feature of this material is that it has a light-permeable structure that allows it to harmonize with natural teeth. Zirconium, which is a solid material, also gives high durability to the porcelain coated on it. It has aesthetic advantages over metal-based porcelains. Because the paint called opaquer, which is used to cover the gray color of the metal in porcelain with metal infrastructure, makes the porcelain look more opaque and matte, and also causes the depth of the light to disappear.
In addition, in porcelain veneers using normal metal, sometimes the gray color of the metal appears over the gingiva or paints the gingiva, near the gingiva. This situation does not occur in zirconium porcelains.
The preference of zirconium especially in porcelain veneers to be applied to the anterior region makes our patients more aesthetically pleasing.
How is zirconium porcelain made?
All surfaces of the teeth are less cut (removed) than in normal metal-based porcelains. The measurement is taken and sent to the laboratory. After the zirconium infrastructure is rehearsed in the first session and the physician's approval is obtained, the finished zirconium porcelains of the patient are adhered to the teeth on the second visit of the patient.
What are the advantages of zirconium?
It can be used on all teeth where porcelain teeth with metal infrastructure are used.
It causes less material loss (tooth cutting) than metal-based porcelain restorations.
Because of its high light transmittance, it is the type of restoration that most closely resembles natural teeth.
Compared to other aesthetic porcelains, it does not reflect the darkness of the dark and colored teeth underneath.
It does not cause any change in taste or smell. It does not color.
In implant applications, the restoration that best protects the implant is zirconium supported prosthesis applications.
What are the disadvantages?
It is more costly than metal-based porcelain.
It is not preferred for long bridges to be made in case of a large number of missing teeth, especially in the posterior regions.
Prices differ. Is it cheap zirconium?
In recent years, zirconium building materials originating from China have also been marketed in our country. Their tissue compatibility, aesthetics, quality and lifespan are low. For this reason, prices may change. In addition, in this treatment, criteria such as the experience of the dentist in this field, meticulousness and the quality of the sterilization materials during the treatment process are the factors affecting the pricing. Cheap zirconium often causes more harm than good to the patient.
Does zirconium cause discoloration and gingival recession in teeth?
Zirconium is a tissue-friendly material. It certainly does not cause discoloration and gingival recession caused by other metal-based materials.
At what age is it done?
Permanent teeth that erupt after zirconium milk teeth can be made after they are completed in the mouth. However, it should be preferred to wait for the chin development to end in young people.
Can zirconium be used when making porcelain on implants?
available. When making prosthesis over the implant, we usually get more aesthetic results if we make not only the zirconium coating but also the part that carries the coating from zirconium.
Can zirconium be used in people with metal allergies?
Since zirconium is a tissue-friendly material, it is not allergenic. It can be used comfortably.
