Implants are artificial tooth roots made of titanium, which are placed in place of lost or congenitally missing teeth, and do not have any harmful side effects to the body.
In single or a few missing teeth, it is possible to complete the missing tooth without touching the neighboring healthy teeth, and it is possible to use fixed dentures instead of removable dentures in multiple tooth deficiencies thanks to dental implants.
While regional tooth losses were treated with fixed prostheses known as bridges, which were made by cutting healthy teeth adjacent to the missing area in previous years, implant treatment has been our first choice in recent years. The reason for this is that healthy teeth are not cut and the jawbone is prevented from melting in the areas where the implant is placed.
A comprehensive history of the patient should be taken before deciding to implant. Systemic disorders, bone width and height, bone stiffness, smoking, oral hygiene are among the factors affecting the success of the implant.
Radiographic examinations performed before the treatment give us information about the condition of the bone. Although it is possible to gain bone tissue with various techniques (bone powder, etc.) for bone tissues of insufficient width and height, this may not be suitable for every patient.
Who can be implanted?
Implants can be applied to anyone who is in good general health and who is 17-18 years old.
What are the diseases and habits that will affect the construction of the implant?
The patient's existing blood pressure, diabetes, heart and bone disorders are the conditions that should be known and taken into account before the procedure. In most of them, it is possible to apply implant treatment with doctor consultation or with the use of appropriate diet and medication. Of course, smoking is also one of the negative factors. Implants are not performed in patients who use Bisphosphonate group drugs, which are generally given to patients to reduce bone resorption.
Are implants harmful to the body?
Dental implants are made of titanium. Titanium is a substance compatible with the body enough to fuse to a healthy bone, and they do not harm our health.
What is the treatment process in implants?
In dental implants, it is necessary to wait for the implant to fuse in the jawbone for an average of 2 months after implant placement. In that process, the patient does not need to go to the clinic. After the boiling period is over, the construction phase of the prosthesis to be made on the implant begins, which will take approximately 20 days.
Will I have a lot of pain at the end of the implant operation? Will my face change?
Since local anesthesia will be applied during the operation, the patient does not have any pain. There may be some pain and swelling after the procedure. But in general, implant procedures are less painful, contrary to popular belief.
Can an implant be made without stitches?
There is no need for stitches when the tooth that needs to be extracted is pulled and the implant is placed immediately. In addition, in the presence of sufficient bone and attached gingiva, a small round incision is made only for the area where the implant will be placed, which does not require stitches.
